 Which exam is required to become an IPS?

This is the main exam of UPSC.  There are total 9 papers in this exam.  Out of these 9 papers, 2 papers are qualifying papers, which are of 300-300 marks, whose marks are not added to the final merit but still it is mandatory to pass it.

After this, the remaining 7 papers are most important for making the rank of the candidate because the marks of these 7 papers are added in the final merit and each paper is of 250 marks.

Interview

This is the last stage of UPSC exam, those candidates who clear the prelims and mains exam are called for the interview.  The interview is of 200 marks and the marks of the interview will be added to the final merit.  In the interview, your decision making ability, your thoughts, your thinking and your knowledge etc. are tested.

All the marks you get in the interview are added to the final merit and after that the final merit is released.
